It's Time, Let's Ride

Thank you for your interest in the 100 Horse Ride!

This is a General Information Page

(You can download and print this page here)

There are some rules that need to be followed to make this event safe and successful:

First.

EVERYONE MUST SIGN A WAIVER AND HAVE A WRISTBAND. (Download release here)

Insurance. There will be wristbands in every parking lot. For people riding in, go to the Post Office Parking lot. Bring your paperwork to save time and don’t run over the volunteers, not everyone is a horse person!!!! Make sure you have time to do this. They will be there at 10:30am

Second.

The ONLY symbols that will be allowed in the ride are the Flag of the United States of America, our six United States Armed Forces and Department of Defense Veteran groups (https://www.defense.gov/Resources/Veteran-Support-Organizations). If you want to wear a token of someone important to you, by all means, please do. Be tasteful and reverent. NO political or special interest group paraphernalia will be allowed, if you choose to do so, you will kindly be asked to leave them in your rig or you will be escorted off the route. This is NOT the event for that. Thank you for understanding.

Next, attire.

PLEASE wear the best western attire you can. The more western it is, the more Cave Creek it is! Please wear red, white and blue. Please decorate your horse if you want to. Yes, you can carry a flag if your horse is good, the more the better. The Cave Creek 100 Horse Ride is a statement. A statement that the horses that made the west are still here. If we do not make a presence, our heritage will be lost. We ride as horseman, be proud.

Parking.   See Parking Map Here

This is our biggest issue as you all know. There are several businesses and landowners who have graciously allowed us to use their PRIVATE property to park on. The town has limited road parking. COME EARLY. Town is going to be busy! I beg you to PLEASE conduct yourselves as guests and clean up after yourselves and your animals. Volunteers will be there after 10:30, if you come earlier, please park so we can maximize parking. Some of the lots have people living there, be courteous! We CANNOT continue this event without the support of our businesses and the town. Don't be that guy that ruins it for all of us. There is a map with the lots and parking designated for trailer parking. I HIGHLY recommend you jump in with friends to save parking. If you can ride to town, that's even better. How cool will that look when we all start emerging out of the desert, dressed to the nine's! There are so many people who have never seen such a thing. We CAN be the biggest gathering of horses of this kind of event in the state! Before the pandemic, we had 117 horses, it was a sight to see! We can do this...

The RIDE See Route Map Here

The order of go is this.

AZ Ranger

Bagpiper Wheaton McClanathan will lead (I'm so excited)

Big Horse Color guard (Hope Mike’s belgian, Cody Christy’s Shire and Max and Chloe 2 big grey drafts)

13 Mini Horse Color guard (will meet us and fall in at Cave Creek Rd, please let them in)

100 Horses

Minis in carts (will meet us and fall in at Cave Creek Rd)

Walking Veterans (will meet us and fall in at Cave Creek Rd)

AZ Ranger or Cave Creek Tractors to hold traffic.

You MUST be in the Galloway Wash at Spur Cross with wristbands NO Later than 12:30. We leave promptly at 12:40. We will step onto Cave Creek Rd at 1pm. Please use the washes to get there, if you ride through town, you kind of ruin the visual of us all coming onto the road as a big unit. If you have a busy horse, please ride toward the back so you have a chance to let them fall into line so when we get on Cave Creek Rd, they are settled. This is the horseman part, if you need help, ask for help.

We will walk (please spread out) down Cave Creek Rd to Harold’s Corral where Wheaton will mount the steps at Harold’s and play a patriotic song. Everyone should turn to face the crowds on both sides of the road. I hope to have all the bars down there to turn off their music so we can hear the bagpipes resound through town and a moment of silence. If that doesn’t give you goose bumps, I don’t know what will…

Wheaton will then play Scotland the Brave and we will disperse, just like we got there, into the desert like ghosts. GET IT?

We have outriders who will help you. Please listen to them. They are there for your safety. If your horse is upset, there are many places to duck out to prevent injury to yourself other horses or patrons. If something goes wrong, tell me when we are done so it doesn’t happen again. We want you all to have the best time.

PLEASE NOTE: Cave Creek, of course, just paved the road. If you have boots for your horses, wear them. Try not to ride where the car tires drive, it can be slick.

EVERYONE MUST SIGN A WAIVER AND HAVE A WRISTBAND. There will be wristbands in every parking lot.

For people riding in, go to the Post Office Parking lot.

Bring your paperwork to save time and don’t run over the volunteers!!!!

Make sure you have time to do this. They will be there at 10:30am

Disclaimer: I don’t mean to sound bossy. This event is very close to my heart. I am so grateful to be able to do this again this year. This is a scripted event, if we all do what I have outlined here, it will be so cool. Help each other out…

I love you all, thank you for coming in advance.

Mz Ellie.
